With reference to your Despatch
No. 149 of the 3rd. August last relative to the crew of the
British Steamship "Franklyn", and in continuation of my
Goo 309by
No. 201 of the 29th. July on the same subject, I have the
honour to inform you that I have ascertained by enquiry
that there was no jeering at these men by Chinese, that
they did not demand an appeal to the Supreme Court, that
the Marine Magistrate did not refuse to allow them to appeal,
and that there was no refusal to allow them legal assis-
-tance.
